Had a good meeting today with property services where i let them know i wanted to see better ways for community enterprise, organisations and social enterprise to take advantage of long term unlet property that could be used as a catalyst to support their development from idea to reality.

More community enterprise in our towns means…

• More jobs for local people

• More services for local people

• Passionate people having a base to work towards local indicators such as teenage pregnancy and unemployment.

• Better accesability to services for local people.

Over the next few months i will be following up some ideas on how we can do this with the head of property services, Mike Romano and Joy Brassington who is the lead on social enterprise. Im sure we can open up a clearer communication channel and robust system to help sustainable enterprise receive incentives to set up shop in vacant units…These could include rate relief, rent agreements including significant reductions in the early stages, peppercorn rents and asset transfers.
