PLAYGROUND UPDATE

by Matt Wilcox on Saturday 27th August, 2011

Before the last election i made a promise that i would work hard to get another playground built in the ward after our only one in Coseley street was removed many years ago. I have made some progress so far and wanted to share with residents my findings…

• The playground in Coseley Street was in such a bad way that the final 2 pieces were removed around 6 years ago, Since this time the land has been vacant. The suggestion from the officers at the time was that there was no real community demand for the replacement.

• At the Start of the Norton Heights development the council received £100,000 which was earmarked for children’s play facilities in the new development. With Interest this figure has now grown to £161,000 and Design works have now commenced!

I will now be following this up with more questions…

• Who is involved with the new playground in Norton Heights, Where will it be located and what is the anticipated timeline…

• I will also ask if the money  can be used to fund a playground on Norton Heights itself and with the massive amount of interest can this also be used to kickstart a playground on the old Coseley Street site.

I will have more news soon!
