Etruria Canal Festival!
This year was the first time i have ever been to the canal festival down at Etruria and i must say how great it was, a fantastic family day of fun and was great bumping into so many people i knew. I spent most of my afternoon down there with Mary from PMAG and Julie our council officer helping with the Ford green hall asset transfer project.
Oh and here is my son kissing a badger!

21st May 2011
Today i have spent some time helping complete the memorial garden at the local community centre in memory of local lad Zak Cushack and other soldiers who have died fighting for the country. Along with Neil Hawkins Chair of Newford residents association (Who has driven the project forward) and friends and Family of Zak we managed to move a massive stone into position which will be laid in memory. The garden will be open from Thursday 26th May and will be a fantastic addition to the community centre, well done and thank you to all involved especially Neil, Zak’s Mum and Austin the gardener!
You can find details below about why the garden has been created from the sentinel news story.

Here is a picture of the Swans nest in Whitfield Valley Nature reserve that were killed the following weekend. I took the picture because the signets were so cute! Its a shame that someone committed such an awful crime.
You can find details about the incident here -

Local area improvements…
Here is a picture of one of the first projects i was involved in through the ward budget and it was the renewal of the old broken fencing on Hanley road outside Horwood Gardens. It now looks fantastic and all the residents are really happy with the results.
At the end of the path we also installed this to help residents cross a muddy piece of grass!
Another contribution we made was to the Allotments down at Newford towards a new surface for their carpark, I also provided assistance for a wall that was crumbling at the rear and some money towards extra gravel to extend the work.

Here is a picture with myself and Matt Fry who runs the local special olympics in Stoke. I took some time out to have a kick about with him and some of the lads from their cup winning football team, it was great to see despite having some mild to severe learning difficulties these guys could still play at a decent standard!
Some of you might recognise Matt who is the Labour candidate for Weston Coyney in the 2011 elections.

Had an interesting time at Staffs uni where David Milliband came to speak to local political students and members of the public and local labour party.
